Getting Started: Palm Sync for Mac OS X Installation Instructions

Palm Sync for Mac OSX System requirements:

Supported devices:

  • A Palm Device running Palm OS 4.1 to 5.4.x (Palm, Tungsten, Treo, Visor, Zire)

Installing Palm Sync for Mac OSX

  1. Make sure Palm Desktop 4.1 is installed. If you have an older version of Palm Desktop installed, uninstall the old version before installing version 4.1. You can download Palm Desktop 4.1 from http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/.

  2. Download the sundial-palm-osx-101.dmg to your desktop.

  3. Run the Oracle Calendar Sync installer on your computer as follows:

    Double-click the sundial-palm-osx-101.dmg file.
The installer checks for existing Sync files and installs the program. Depending on your setup, this may take several minutes. Some warnings may be generated and saved to the install log; you can ignore these messages (see example dialog, below).

    Install Warning

  4. Turn on your Palm device and place it in its cradle.

  5. Press the HotSync button. The Oracle Calendar Sync application will be installed on your Palm device.

    Two Notes:
    • You may get error messages in the HotSync log saying that Oracle Calendar Sync cannot be located. Ignore these messages.
    • The installer will move previously existing Datebook and ToDo conduits to a folder entitled Disabled Conduits.

  6. Now, if it's not already running, launch HotSync Manager. (It's probably in the Palm folder, in your Applications folder.)

  7. From the HotSync menu, choose Conduit Settings. A list of synchronizable items appears. Choose how you want Oracle Calendar Events and Tasks to be synchronized by double-clicking each item.

  8. Select a user name from the top of the Conduit Settings dialog box. If there is only one user name, it will be selected automatically.

  9. Oracle Calendar Sync is now installed but no Entry information has been synchronized.

  10. Open Oracle Calendar Sync on your Palm device and enter the following information:
    • User: your SUNet ID
    • Password: leave this field blank
    • Connect: To Server
    • Server: calendar-server.stanford.edu - note the line is not wide enough to hold this so you actually want to start by typing in .stanford.edu then moving back to the front to add calendar.
    • Node ID: 10

  11. Select Dates in the upper right corner

  12. Pick your date range (eg. 1 Month in the Past, 2 months in the future)

  13. Start your HotSync

Note: Address book synchronization does not work with Mac OS X.
