Getting Started: Installation Instructions for Windows (Sundial 10.1)

Windows System Requirements

Installing Your Windows Client

  1. Download the Sundial software for Windows.

  2. Accept the default (save the program to disk) and click OK.

  3. Accept the default installation destination, or select the drive/folder you want to save to and click Save. (Depending on your web browser and how it is configured, the downloaded installer file may appear on your desktop, or it may be placed somewhere on your hard drive.)

  4. Find the downloaded file on your desktop or hard drive. It's called sundial-installer-pc-101.exe.

  5. Double-click the sundial-installer-pc-101.exe application icon. The InstallShield Wizard will guide you through the installation process and will create a shortcut icon on your desktop.

  6. Now you are ready to use your calendar. To launch Sundial, double-click the Sundial Calendar icon Shortcut icon on your desktop. Alternatively, you can click the Windows Start button and select Programs, then Oracle Calendar from the pop-up menu.

  7. On the Sign-in screen, just click the Sign-in button. You do not need to enter a user name and password — Sundial uses your Kerberos login from PC-Leland to authenticate you. If you are not already logged in to PC-Leland, the PC-Leland login box will prompt you for your SUNet ID and password. (Later, if you wish to access the calendar off-line, select Off-line from the drop-down menu and click Sign-in).

    Sign-in

  8. The first time you Sign-in to your calendar, you will be asked if you want to create an off-line Agenda. Clicking Yes will allow you use the Address Book feature and to access your calendar when your computer is not connected to the network (such as when you are traveling).

    Off-line Agenda

  9. If you click Yes, you will be asked to create an off-line password. Enter a password (other than your SUNet ID password) for accessing your off-line calendar. Whenever you launch your calendar, you will be asked for your password.

    Note:
If you do not want to be asked for your password every time you launch your calendar, leave the password box blank and click OK. When you are asked to confirm your password, leave the password box blank and click OK.

    Offline Password

  10. You are now ready to use your calendar. Upon initial log-in to Sundial, two windows should be open — one labeled In-Tray and a second window showing a Day View of your Sundial calendar.

    In-Tray

    Day-view

  11. To switch to another calendar view, click on the three available options - View Day day-view icon (currently displaying), View Week week-view icon, and View Month month-view icon

Privacy Settings: The default settings for a calendar account are not the most private, i.e. anyone with a Sundial account can view meeting times only (but no other information) on your calendar, and anyone can invite you to a meeting. If you do not want to allow others to invite you to a meeting or to view your calendar, you must change your preferences by selecting Access Rights from the Tools menu. See the Access Rights section of the Sundial Quick Start Guide
